Working as an educator, in both inner city and suburban districts, for the past 30 years I often turned to digital sources for my own professional enrichment and found that most only gave snippets of information, nothing comprehensive that I could take back into my classroom and really use. As a district mentor I often thought all rising teachers should have specific information and strategies to guide them through their first few years. As an experienced curriculum developer I thought every rising and experienced educator should know the ins and outs of developing and tweaking their own daily lessons to reflect student lives, needs and abilities as well as to keep current. As a staff developer I heard the frustrated teacher complaints of “Oh another workshop!” As a middle level content classroom teacher I know educators are facing unprecedented challenges driving many out, discouraging those who want to enter, and exasperating and exhausting those of us who stay. My 30+ years of in classroom experience, Ivy League trained expertise and staunch advocacy for our public school systems, and my passion and successes as a classroom teacher collectively became my “WHY” for creating InOurClassrooms.
